This work supports the findings of a study of individuals with a strong nature orientation who were found to have more positive views of environmentally responsible practices by tourism businesses than tourists who were not so nature oriented (Andereck, 2009).

Tourism businesses which are more sustainable usually benefit local communities and raise awareness and support for the sustainable use of natural resources. Tourist choices are increasingly influenced by sustainability considerations (UNEP, 2011). A survey by the Center on Ecotourism and Sustainable Development (CESD) and The International Ecotourism Society (TIES) (2005) found that a majority of international tourists are interested in the social, cultural and environmental issues relevant to the destinations they visit and are interested in patronising hotels that are committed to protecting the local environment.
