But just as Morris Rubin and his diligent, smart, steady wife, Mary Sheridan Rubin, were exhausted from sweating it out and prepared to lay down their editors’ pens, the readers of the magazine came to the rescue with thousands of donations, big and small, and the magazine resumed publication in 1948.
